State Representative Entenza, July 12, 2002 Dear Steve, Thank you for contacting me to express your concerns about the Ayd Mill Road connections. I appreciate you taking the time to write, and I am in complete agreement with you. I am quite disappointed in the mayor's unilateral actions in this matter. His sudden announcement of the connection, without working with the surrounding community, is not the way to go about making such a significant change. The community that is impacted by this road should have been consulted much more before any announcement was made. I am opposed to connect Ayd Mill Road, and I think it is a mistake. As you know firsthand, the increase in traffic has led to an increase in noise in the surrounding neighborhood. It has also led to traffic moving at higher speeds, an unsafe situation. The history of highways is filled with neighborhoods that were destroyed in the name of convenience. Vibrant communities like the Rondo neighborhood were erased when freeways went through, and we cannot repeat that experience. The mayor has said that we will just have to wait and see how this test goes. I hope, however that we will not have a year long test and that Ayd Mill Road is disconnected from the freeway. Again, thank your for writing. Please feel free to contact me in the future regarding this, or any other issue of concern to you. Sincerely, Representative Matt Entenza
