>> The 6-month Ayd Mill Road traffic measurement data is in.
The numbers clearly show that car traffic has increased in
our neighborhoods twice the rate of other nieghborhoods
and we demand that the test be stopped!
Thanks to Don Ludeman for providing a synopsis, charts and
graphs using data collected by city staff. These numbers include
traffic counts and traffic patterns for the test connection of
Ayd Mill Road to I-35E.
What we want: An immediate end to Randy Kelly's illegal test.
At the very least, the road MUST be closed at the conclusion of
the one-year "test." The neighborhoods voted for a linear park.
Close the road and add much needed green space to our city!
>> Next Neighborhoods First Community Meeting:
Will be scheduled mid to late January, 2003. More details coming
soon via e-mail, phone and fliers. Traffic analysis of the
"test" data will be presented and analyzed.
Members of the media will be invited. It is important
that they know that the "test" connection of Ayd Mill Road is
hurting our neighborhoods!
>> Stripe, Walk and Ride Proposal
(see full proposal at www.aydmill.org)
Share the street by striping two lanes of Ayd Mill Road
for bicycle and pedestrian traffic. Safety is enhanced
because the east lanes are physically separate from the car
traffic in the west lanes, which have the access ramps.
Stripe, Walk and Ride proposal was presented to the St Paul
District Councils. Eleven district councils plus the Neighborhood
Energy Consortium reviewed the proposal and supported the main
point that pedestrian and bike access would be of benefit to
the larger community.
Even Mayor Kelly supported adding bike and pedestrian access
on Ayd Mill in the September 5th, 2002 Pioneer Press at:
http://www.twincities.com/mld/pioneerpress/news/local/4003664.htm
With the overwhelming support of bike and pedestrian access,
no Ayd Mill "test" scenario includes bikes and pedestrians.
The Ayd Mill corridor even connects to the Minneapolis Greenway
with an existing bridge over the Mississippi.
Mr. Mayor Kelly, your excellency, where is the bike and pedestrian
access to Ayd Mill Road you promised? Let's "test" your proposal.
Contact Mayor Randy Kelly, politely tell him your position. Do
not just try one method of contact, try all methods.
