We are reconstructing the original documents and components of the '68 Corvette.

I'll document here the work order, the components and the assembly of the original 1968 Corvette and attempt to re-create the vehicle as it was initially built.

This Corvette Convertible was built in St. Louis on Wednesday, December 20, 1967. The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is 194678S40751. About 1000 assembly workers covered 2 shifts in the plant, 5 days per week. In addition to incoming components and supplies, there were 2 main assembly operations, body and frame. The body assembly assigned 'in plant' job order numbers from 1 to 500. This vehicle was assigned # 110 (as seen in lower photo). The body joined the frame and drive train on the frame assembly line, which assigned the VIN # shown above. The car was shipped to dealer #525 in Zone #29.

The components that were originally installed in the car still exist today and are identified as follows: Engine # T1206IL, Block # 18S407151, Block Casting # 3916321, Head Casting #3917215 (Tonawanda supplied the 'Big Block' engines.
