Grants Program

 I- GradSEHD Cohort Development Grants

Statement of Purpose:

The primary purpose of the cohort development grant is to provide funding for events, programs, and services that directly impact the College of Education & Human Development’s (CEHD) graduate-level students.  These events can include social events or academic-initiatives that contribute to the overall academic, professional, and social development of its graduate-level students.

Eligibility:

The grants program is available exclusively for projects, events, and opportunities that benefit CEHD’s graduate-level students.  Only registered students will be considered.

Type of grants:

GRADSEHD offers five Cohort Development grants per year. CEHD organizations are eligible for only One award up to $ 300 every academic year.

Guidelines for GradSEHD Grants:

  1. Grants will be awarded only to programs to which all CEHD graduate-level students have equal access without regard to race, color, creed, religion, national origin, sex, age, marital status, disability, public assistance status, veteran status, or sexual orientation.
  1. Applications are available on the GradSEHD website and must be submitted to the GradSEHD office (Student & Professional Services - 110 Wulling Hall).
  1. Grants will be awarded only to registered students with a bona fide connection to CEHD.
  1. Grant funds are available for multiple proposals for eligible students.
  1. Fundraisers or profit-generating events will not be funded.
  1. All funded events will be advertised in the GradSEHD Update newsletter and the GradSEHD website.
  1. To be considered for funding, the applications must provide honest, complete, and detailed information about the program or event for which the funding is being sought.  Incomplete proposals will not be considered for funding.
  1. GradSEHD will not fund events retroactively.
  1. If an entrance/registration fee is charged, the event/program must be available to all CEHD graduate-level students at a reduced rate.  GradSEHD may assist with and advertise the selling of tickets.
  1. Grant Evaluation Forms must be submitted within 30 days following the event.   GradSEHD will not consider future grant requests if an evaluation form is not on file for a previous grant.  If an evaluation is submitted after the 30 day timeline, a written explanation for the delayed submission is required.
  2. Any grant money received must be used for the event or program for which it is awarded.  Unused portions of the grant must be refunded to GradSEHD.
  1. Publicity regarding the event program must be made throughout the College, and must state that funds were received from GradSEHD.

 Statement of Purpose:

GradSEHD travel and research grants are intended to help support professional or academic development for current graduate-level students in CEHD.  Due to limited funding, GradSEHD grants are only available to registered students and should not be expected to cover the total cost of attendance.

 Eligibility:

GradSEHD receives its funding from GAPSA (Graduate & Professional Student Assembly), therefore travel and research grants are only available to current graduate-level students in CEHD who pay the GAPSA Student Services Fee.  You must provide proof of payment of this fee (a print-out of the University student account statement will suffice).  Travel and research grants are intended to offer partial support of travel and research for either an individual or group of CEHD graduate students.

 Types of Grants:

  1. Travel grants: 40 grants will be allotted per year on the basis of 20 per semester. Applicants are eligible for a maximum amount of $ 125. Eligible expenses include airfare, ground transportation, lodging, and conference/meeting registration fee.  Ground transportation and lodging within the Twin Cities Metro area and alcohol are not eligible expenses.  Applicants are eligible for one grant per year.
  2. Research grants: 12 grants will be allotted per year on the basis of 6 per semester. Applicants are eligible for a maximum amount of $250. Eligible expenses are data collection, data analysis, and publication costs. Applicants are eligible for one grant per year.

 Guidelines for GradSEHD Research Grants:

  1. Grants will be awarded to graduate-level students without regard to race, color, creed, religion, national origin, sex, age, marital status, disability, public assistance status, veteran status, or sexual orientation.
  1. Grants will be awarded only to registered graduate-level students in CEHD who pay the GAPSA Student Services Fee.
  1. Grants will not be awarded to support full funding for the event.  Students are encouraged to seek additional sources of funding for remaining costs. Awards will be given after the grantee submits appropriate receipts and documentation, as well as the final evaluation.
  2. A graduate-level student (or a CEHD students’ organization) may apply for two grants per academic year; however GradSEHD will give priority to those who have not received their first grant for the year.
  1. To be considered for funding, the applications must provide honest, complete, and detailed information about the travel for which the funding is being sought.  Incomplete proposals will not be considered for funding.  In addition to your completed application, adequate documentation must be provided to help support your request. Depending on the event, the following are some of the documents you may need:
    1. A copy of the conference/meeting program
    2. A confirmation letter confirming that you are presenting
    3. A letter from your adviser discussing the professional importance of attending the conference/meeting/event
    4. An abstract of your research paper/proposal
    5. A copy of your registration confirmation
    6. A copy of your travel itinerary
    7. A proof of payment of the GAPSA Student Services fee
  2. If GradSEHD has funded a previous travel grant for you, a completed Grant Evaluation Form, including receipts, must be on file to be considered for another award.

Things you need know about GRADSEHD grants:

  1. Due date: Grant applications are due the last Friday of the month (applications are reviewed monthly at the subsequent Wednesday meeting of the GRADSEHD Board after the Friday due date).
  1. Drop-off location: Applications must be dropped off in Michelle McElroy’s mailbox in Wulling Hall 110.
  1. Grants are on a first-come-first served basis.  If the number of applications at the end of an application period is over the number of grants remaining in a given semester, grant amounts will be adjusted (i.e. you may get less money) to provide an equitable distribution to those who have applied.
  1. GradSEHD will not fund events retroactively

Any leftover money from the fall will be rolled over to the spring.  Spring money will not be dipped into during the fall semester.
