In spring of 2007 the Office for International Programs at the University of Minnesota awarded a grant to develop a collaborative relationship between the University of Minnesota and FLACSO- Mexico. This collaboration is an international, interdisciplinary initiative designed to foster collaboration and partners across borders and across disciplines. Participating partners at the University of Minnesota include: the College of Education and Human Development, the College of Liberal Arts, the Hubert H Humphrey Institute for Public Affairs, the Law School Human Rights Center, and the University Extension Service. This multidisciplinary group reaches across disciplines and colleges to create new partnerships within the university, as well as presents a unified approach to the collaboration with FLACSO-Mexico. FLACSO Mexico is the participating institutional partner. The Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales) (FLACSO) is an international organization created with the purpose of enhancing the social and political analysis in Latin America through graduate programs and academic research. FLACSO-Mexico, established in 1975, is well known as one of the top research and teaching institutes in the country. FLACSO-Mexico offers graduate studies including a Master’s degree in Social Sciences, Government and Public Affairs, and Population studies, as well as Ph.D. programs in Social Science Research, with specializations in Political Science or Sociology.
