Geography and Geographic Information Science

Francis Harvey works on geography, geographic information science and related issues and is an Associate Professor in the University of Minnesota's Department of Geography and Director of Graduate Studies for the Master’s in Geographic Information Science. He also has a position as a Visiting Professor at the Jagiellonian University, Poland, Institute of Geography and Spatial Management.

This site is currently under development to replace my previous umn.edu website. I hoped to complete it by the end of August 2009, but it will take longer....

While there many pages in this site, it is primarily divided into two parts:

  1. Research

  2. Teaching

A current CV is also available. I am striving to make digital versions of my publications available through this site. If you are looking for a publication not on-line, please contact me.

Additional material related to my book, A Primer of GIS, published by Guilford Press is available

I have two blogs, one for students in the MGIS program and one predominantly related, though not entirely, to geographic information science.

Welcome to my site - UNDER DEVELOPMENT 03Sep2009

We have to make use of language, which is made up necessarily of preconceived ideas. Such ideas unconsciously held are the most dangerous of all.
