Locations
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday:
Our practice room is on the East Bank in Cooke Hall, room 308. To get
to there, cross the walkway from the Minneapolis Recreation Center to
Cooke Hall. Here you will find yourself in a large gymnasium. Take a right
and you will find a door leading into a smaller gym; this is 308.
Wednesday:
Wednesday night practice happens in the Armory Gym. The Armory is
across from Rapson Hall and adjacent to the Field House. It is the home
of the ROTC program on campus.
What to Bring
We provide fencers with all equipment necessary to fence. Newcomers should wear shoes they can comfortably run in, as well as clothes that won't restrict their movement. We also recommend those new to fencing visit the Intro to Fencing page to get familiar with the basics of the sport and get an idea of the three olympic weapons.
Club Dues
New members are welcome to attend 3 free practice sessions.
Thereafter, the cost is either $70 for a semester or $120 for the year.
If you are not a student or faculty member of the University of Minnesota, you are welcome to join our club. However, you will need to purchase an affiliate card, which costs an additional $65 per semester.
Membership privileges include:
- Practice time and space
- Instruction from coaches (individual lessons as available)
- Use of club equipment
- Access to bouts at other local clubs
- Entrance to collegiate fencing tournaments, both locally and throughout the U.S.
- Travel and hotel stays at away tournaments (travel fees may be assessed)
Team Requirements
Everyone is welcome to fence with us recreationally during club hours, but we require that people looking to travel to intercollegiate competitions come to at least 3 practices a week (this includes fencing at local clubs). We do not require any prior fencing experience to compete on our team.
