[TOP] Car accident victims seeking help

Dear FACSS members and friends,

A happy family is now facing tremendous difficulties. A sudden tragic traffic accident almost deprived them of all their happiness and hope. Wu, Pengcheng, a Chinese PhD student from Oregon State University and his wife Fang, Yan suffered an automobile accident on March 18th, 06. The accident took the life of YanĄŻs mother and Yan and Pengchang's unborn child. Yan was sent to Oregon Health & Science University for emergency care. Now she is in a non-life-threatening yet still very critical condition. She is still in a coma, with the liver damaged and bleeding of the brain. She is now staying in the ICU (Intensive Care unit) waiting for further surgeries. Pengchang is suffering a broken ankle and a bruised eye, neither of which is life threaning. But it will be a long time before he will recover, both physically and mentally.

And the family is now facing serious financial problems due to sky-high medical care expenses incurred already, as well as rehabilitation over the long term and funeral cost. The family's only income is WuĄŻs scholarship, which is about $1,500 / month. The auto and medical insurance cannot possibly cover all the expenses due to the nature of this serious accident. Yan's medical insurance policy covers up to 250,000 for the accident (see the brochure) which is still shy compared to the ICU expenses which are tens of thousands of dollars per day. We felt sympathy, we made wishes, we prayed for them. And we hope you can offer support within your capacity to help this family throughout this tragedy. They need your moral and/or financial support. If possible, please spread the word through your friends. They can use help from everyone.

Our zeal and kindness can dissolve the coldest ice in this world. Let us encourage them, help them, give them hope and confidence to live.

Here is the way you can help financially: http://oregonstate.edu/groups/china/?q=node/8
