The 8th FACSS Board Meeting Minutes

Present: Yunqing You, Yufeng Guo, Xiaodan Wang, Elizabeth Shirley Xue, Hong Ji, Jia Zou, Jingjing Gu, Di You, Xiaowu Zhang, Xunyu Cheng, Debby Hsu, Siqin Yang, Pusheng Zhang, Bin Wu, Peng Huang, Wenling Chen

Note:  Welcome Xiaodan Wang and Qin Fang to be on the board!

Announcements:

1.      The New Year’s event is underway.

1.1 Xiaowu Zhang reported the current stage of the ticket distribution. The tickets now are available for ordering. Check this web site to reserve your tickets:http://www.tc.umn.edu/~facss/Facss/Announce/Announce.htm#goat_event

1.2 Congratulations to Yufeng Guo et al. for the wonderful job of promotion package design of the New Year’s event. The brochures and posters are very useful to publicize FACSS.

1.3 Hong Ji updated the current organization of the New Year’s show. The president added that more traditional performances (e.g., acrobatics, cross talk, Tai chi, and etc.) were needed and welcomed.

1.4 As far as the fundraising for the New Year’s event is concerned, Yufeng Guo reported the approval of Coca-Cola funding. He emphasized the requirements of using the Coca-Cola funding in order to get the full reimbursement afterwards. Pusheng Zhang reported the possible sponsorship of local businesses. The sponsorship may include box lunch, money by check, prizes to audience, and decoration.

1.5 Xunyu Cheng reported the invitation of honorable guests.

1.6 Xiaowu Zhang took the charge of collecting ideas for decoration.

1.7 Most board members volunteered to provide service on the event day.

2.      The president, Yunqing You, presented the report on 2002-2003 FACSS budget. According to him, the revenue and expense for the fall semester were $3845.39 and $3004.77 respectively with $840.62 surplus. As for the budget for the whole year, the estimated revenue and expense are $7900 and $9000 respectively.

4.      Jingjing Gu raised two issues of web maintenance. She asked directors whether they would like to continue the web page design for their respective departments and suggested adding more daily life instructions in order to make the web pages more attractive to most students and scholars. In addition, most board members agreed to modify the current web pages with both English and Chinese language.

5.      Jia Zou gave a very brief review of the past bowling event.

6.      There are several grant applications that need to prepare. A presentation of student fees receiving organization application will be given on February. In addition, Admin, MISA, and MSA are other sources from which FACSS can get funding.

7.      Several events were scheduled.

7.1 Volleyball event was scheduled at 1-5p.m on Sun, January 12 with Bin Wu being as the organizer.

7.2 Skiing trip was planned by Yu Jing.

7.3 Community building was scheduled on Saturday, January 25 with volunteering services to collecting branches.

7.4 Two events were connected to UCSSA events. One is the badminton competition and the other is photograph competition.
