Note: This meeting is not well attended since it approaches the finals. There are, however, a great deal of issues are discussed. The items are listed below.

Announcements:

1. The membership recruitment needs to emphasize. According to the statistics before this meeting, there are 60 registered FACSS members. Compared with the number of Chinese students and scholars in the U, the number of registered members is fairly small. In addition, a large number of the registered members are not current students. Since the membership directly affects FACSS as a prospective student fees receiving organization, the membership recruitment is significantly important. As a result, board members come up with several ways to promote membership, including a detailed explanation why it is necessary to register as a FACSS member, membership discounts for future FACSS events, and follow-up invitations to register attached to every future event’s announcement.

2. Three vice presidents were elected. The president, Yunqing You, briefly introduced the current stage of student fees receiving application. In order to complete FACSS’ organization, three VPs were elected at the end of the meeting. Xiaowu Zhang, Jingjing Gu, and Yufeng Guo were elected as VPs in charge of community involvement, information and technology, and fundraising areas respectively.

3. The New Year event is the main theme for the coming month. Yufeng Guo very briefly presented the progress of Coca-cola funding application for the New Year event. Hong Ji detailed the planning of performance. She mentioned that there had been three Chinese singing and dancing groups (i.e., Min Hua, CAAM Dancing, and Tian Yun) who had committed to perform. Although there is no dearth of performance, the involvements of current students are in high demand. All board members agreed that students’ performances are both welcomed and encouraged. Board members also discussed the decoration of the performance hall. The president, Yunqing You, agreed to purchase necessary decoration supplies. Xiaowu Zhang reported the distribution plan of entrance tickets. There was a hot discussion of methods to distribute tickets according to different time periods and participants’ status. Again, the membership issue was reiterated.

4. Several winter events were planned. Jia Zhou reported the plan of bowling event. The event will be scheduled on December 27, at student center in St. Paul. Once again, the membership recruitment was discussed when the entrance fee to bowling was taken into account. All board members agreed to use membership discount as an incentive to encourage more students to register. Yu Jiang shared some information about the plan of winter skiing event. The skiing event will be planed in January.

5. The president, Yunqing You, announced to attend the UCSSA meeting in Chicago. United Chinese Students and Scholars Association is a registered non-profit organization in Illinois. UCSSA unites CSSAs in 13 universities in Midwest area in the US. This meeting will be the first annual meeting, on which a series of agenda will be discussed to initiate the development of UCSSA.
