Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Why does Metadata Export for iPhoto v1.1.0 only support iPhoto 7?
A. Because of the different install location for plug-ins in iPhoto 6 versus iPhoto 7 and the slightly different APIs, it was more convenient to leave iPhoto 6 support to v1.0.0 only. Metadata Export for iPhoto v1.0.0 is available for iPhoto 6 users here.
Q. Where does Metadata Export for iPhoto plug-in get installed?
A. For iPhoto 6, it is installed in /Applications/iPhoto.app/Contents/PlugIns.
For iPhoto 7, it is installed in /Library/Application Support/iPhoto/Plugins.
Q. I installed Metadata Export for iPhoto and now I want to uninstall it; however, there does not appear to be an uninstaller. How do I uninstall it?
A. For iPhoto 6, remove /Applications/iPhoto.app/Contents/PlugIns/iPhotoMetadataExport.iPhotoExporter.
To access the contents of the iPhoto application, select/highlight the application in the Finder and then, using the contextual menu (Control- or Right-Click) select Show Package Contents.
For iPhoto 7, remove /Library/Application Support/iPhoto/Plugins/iPhotoMetadataExport.iPhotoExporter.
Q. Does Metadata Export for iPhoto allow me to actually export my title/caption and keyword metadata along with the actual photo image data when I export the photo?
A. No. Metadata Export for iPhoto only exports metadata about your photos.
To export metadata along with your photos, you must use iPhoto 7 or later and choose the built-in File Export tab. For file formats that support it (e.g. JPEG), iPhoto will set the IPTC keyword and caption fields accordingly in the exported photo image file.
