Audition Information

May 2013

Dear Prospective and Returning Drumline Members,

Thank you for your interest in becoming a member of the 2013 University of Minnesota Marching Band, a 122 YEAR TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE.

If you're interested in joining the Drumline and haven't contacted us yet, please Submit Your Information on the Marching Band website or call 612-624-2514.

There will be three optional Summer rehearsals on July 31, August 7 and 14 from 7pm - 9pm at TCF Bank Stadium in Room 4. The entrance to the Marching Band facility is located under the "Pope" County marker in the Northeast corner of the stadium.

At the optional Summer rehearsals we'll discuss technique, learn exercises and work on traditional music. Traditional music can be acquired at these rehearsals or by download here. These rehearsals are also an excellent opportunity to meet people!

2013 Auditions are on Friday August 16 at TCF Bank Stadium in Room 4 from 9:30 am to 7:00 pm. Sign up for audition times will be at 9:30 am.

Snare Drum players must be able to play Traditional Grip. If you're practicing for Multi-Tenor Drums, our five shell sizes are 6", 10", 12", 13", and 14". Information on Traditional Grip and other Drumming Basics are available at the bottom of this page.

For the Audition, Snare and Tenor players will perform "Ski-U-Mah", Bass players will be heard and rotated as a line performing other music, Cymbal players will demonstrate techniques and play in a line performing other music and everyone will sight-read music appropriate for their instrument on a drum. Audition results should be announced by 7pm that evening in the Main Rehersal Hall.

Keep in mind when planning your Fall class schedule during the football season the Drumline rehearses from 7pm - 10pm every Wednesday night in addition to the regular Marching Band rehearsal schedule.
