February 6: Mindekirken Tuesday Open House
11:00 - 11:45 am - Norwegian Waffles and Coffee
12:00 - 1:00 pm - Sven Sundgaard, Weather with a Norwegian Twist
What do you get when you add mountains, hills, a northern latitude, oh and an ocean? You get one of the more
diverse climates possible on earth. Norway has some of the most active weather in Europe, certainly because of
this varied land-water setup. Switzerland has mountains, but no ocean nearby. Italy has ocean, but its mountains
don’t dig directly into the sea. There are some things many Minnesotans (even with Norwegian roots) don’t
understand about their motherland. Oslo has a winter climate more like Kansas City than Minneapolis. The
southwest of Norway contains fruit orchards and very mild weather. Go inland and the growing season is short
and brutal for most crops.

Meteorologist Sven Sundgaard joined the KARE 11TV in March 2006. Sven was born in St. Paul and raised
in Cottage Grove. Sven enjoys camping, running, and traveling, especially to Norway and Sweden to visit relatives.
