BACKGROUND

I grew up in the Minneapolis, MN area and am now living in Fargo, ND. I went to college at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN and at North Dakota State University (NDSU) here in Fargo. I graduated in 1991 with B.S. degrees in Microbiology, Veterinary Technology, and Zoology. I still think about careers in either veterinary or human medicine, but right now I'm quite busy with what I'm doing.

I currently work full-time at NDSU in the State Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, work with wildlife rehabilitation where we provide care for wild animals that are injured and work to get them back into condition to be released again into the wild. I also manage the WLREHAB listserv for wildlife rehabilitators, run the Wildlife Rehabilitation Information Directory (which provides information on what to do when you find an injured animal, as well as professional resources), and work part-time as a veterinary technician at a small animal/exotic veterinary clinic.

My hobbies include bonsai (growing/shaping small trees, etc.), riding, biking, tennis, travelling, hiking, skiing (x/d), and just about anything else! I spend (or at least used to!) a lot of time using AOL to talk to others in chat rooms, mostly about beliefs, explaining my Christianity (which is not about a "religion", but all about a relationship). If you have questions about this, write me and I can explain it (or click on the link just above). I also enjoy talking to my pagan friends (wiccans, druids, satanists, etc. etc. etc.) and discussing each other's beliefs. ;)

Please see my discussion on "What is a Christian". There are a lot of misconceptions on this that I like to explain.

INTERESTS

Bonsai
I currently have just a few trees in training (lost some last winter). It takes a lot of time but is very rewarding. I really enjoy working with plants and enjoy art. This is the perfect avenue to combine them both. My favorite type of bonsai are the tray landscapes, where one strives to achive the look of an actual nature scene, possibly seen in the distance (ex: mountains far away with trees nearer, etc.)

Wildlife
I am very involved with
Wildlife Rehabilitation and have been for many years now. I was the director of the Wildlife Care & Rehabilitation Program at NDSU. We cared for many injured animals, and with the help of veterinarians and other dedicated individual volunteers, worked to release the healthy animals back out into the wild after their injuries were healed. We recently had to close the program and stop accepting animals due to lack of a facility, volunteer, and time constraints. This was a big loss for our area as now there is a lack of a facility for people to bring injured wildlife to.
