This project is one component of a two-part project for one year to develop and pilot the National Statistics Teaching Practice Survey (NSTPS), which is based on the Statistics Teaching Inventory, designed as part of the NSF-funded ARTIST project (DUE-0206571). This subproject will evaluate and refine the instrument and work with researchers from other STEM disciplines to align this project with similar efforts in other fields. A sister project (National Statistics Teaching Practice Survey: Planning and on-line logistics) based at the Ohio State University will create a database, report structure, and mechanism for administering the survey online. Working jointly, the instrument will be used to gather and examine pilot data over multiple time points, including settings where change is anticipated (e.g. gauging instructional changes for participants in a best practices workshop). Together these two projects will pave the way for a larger project that will gather longitudinal data on teaching STEM undergraduate courses to track changes over time and alignment of teaching with reform recommendations.
