This two-year project is adapting and implementing several types of innovative materials that have been produced in the past few years for introductory statistics courses. These materials include textbooks, software, web resources, and special simulation tools. Lesson plans and student activity guides are being developed for a series of lessons to transform an introductory statistics course into one that implements the Guidelines for Assessment and Instruction in Statistics Education (GAISE) for teaching introductory statistics courses (http://www.amstat.org/education/gaise/). The lessons, which build on implications from educational research, are designed to involve students in small and large group discussion, computer explorations, and hands-on activities.
All materials developed for the AIMS project are now available at the AIMS website: http://www.tc.umn.edu/~aims/
