Of particular interest is chromosome organization through the cell cycle - the mechanisms that maintain sister chromatid association as well as how chromosomes condense during mitosis. These factors are essential for accurate genome segregation. We can study these processes using RNAi to deplete certain proteins from cells, or by using small molecule inhibitors of the protein of interest. Then, we combine several imaging techniques - live video microscopy, chromosome spreading, immunostaining - to study the phenotypes.
