U of M Weekly Quad Tournaments January 28th, 2006
The U of M Chess Club will be holding weekly rated Quad Tournaments every Wednesday night at 6:30pm in Frontier Hall. There is also an unrated section for those who do not have a USCF membership. The cost is $5 and prizes will vary.



SPRING 2006 CHESS CLUB MEETINGS January 28th, 2006
Spring 2006 Meetings will be held every Monday at 4:00 pm in Coffman.



MATT JENSEN WINS TOURNAMENT May 14th, 2005
Congratulations to Matt Jensen for winning the Second Annual University of Minnesota Chess Club Tournament! Matt earned a point in each of the three rounds he played and also won in a tie-breaking blitz game. Well done Matt!

INTERCOLLEGIATE CHESS TOURNAMENT RESULTS April 12th, 2005
The University of Minnesota had its strongest showing ever as we held off Wisconsin and a late rally by Macalester. The University of Minnesota took first, second, and sixth in the tournament.

The University of Minnesota was led by six players who won all of the games they played. Matt Jensen, Brett Larsen, Mike Carson, Zack Tverstol, David Frasch and Dan Kigelman were a perfect 3-0 in the tournament. Congratulations!

MEETING INFORMATION UPDATE February 3rd, 2005
An adjustment has been made to the Tuesday night meeting times this semester (Spring 2005). They will now start at 4:00pm instead of 5:00pm.

CHESS-CHECKERS FESTIVAL October 24th, 2004

When: Sunday November 7th, 2004 from 11AM to 5PM.

There's a quickchess/blitz (g/10) tournament that starts at 1:00 with registration from 12:30 to 1:00. There is no cost to participate. Casual games, blitz, bughouse chess, and more. Interested chess players are encouraged to bring chess set (if they have one). Chess clocks are also helpful. NEW AFFILIATION September 28th, 2004

CHESS LEGEND PASSES ON September 27th, 2004
International Chess Master Michael J. Valvo of Chanhassen, Minnesota passed away on September 18, 2004 at age 62. Minnesota has suffered a great loss by losing Mr. Valvo. Please read his obituary here: http://www.uschess.org/news/press/uspr0427.php



CHESS TEAM TRY-OUTS September 13th, 2004
Chess team tryouts will be this Wednesday at the club meeting. To qualify you must be a registered U of M student (grad. School is included). Tryouts will be given by Zack Tverstol.



TWIN CITIES CHESS LEAGUE August 3rd, 2004
The 2004-2005 Twin Cities Chess League will start up in September. It consists of teams of 4 and they play once a month. The U of M can definitely put up some strong competition if we get the right team together. If you are interested in forming a group or would like more information, just contact us Chess@umn.edu



TUTORS FOR SCHOOLS August 3rd, 2004

The University of Minnesota Chess Club has renewed its sponsorship with the Loring Pasta Bar for Summer 2004! From now on, summer meetings will be held every Tuesday night at the Loring Pasta Bar in Dinkytown (intersection of 14th and 4th).
