Jamason Chen is a photographer, videographer, and new media researcher. His professional career spans nearly twenty years working as a photojournalist as well as in the motion picture and broadcasting industry and as a new media researcher and multimedia consultant.

He came to Minneapolis for his graduate study in visual communication at the School of Journalism and Mass Communication in the University of Minnesota. As a freelance photo contributor and essayist, his photographs and essays have been appeared in numerous Asian and American publications including: People’s Photography and Popular Photography, China; Lian He Zao Bao (the United Morning News), Singapore; Wen Wei Po (the Cultural Daily), Hong Kong; and Photo Creator, Malaysia; The Murphy Report, Cross-Cultural Poetics, Atomicliving.com., bleakbeauty.com and the geowall on-line journal in the U.S.

Since 1998, Chen has been based in Minneapolis where he got his master’s degree in mass communication from the University of Minnesota and has been working as a new media researcher and practitioner. He joined the Video Network Services at ADCS in 2003. When he was a graduate student, he taught students non-linear editing skills, digital videography and graphic arts programs. Under his supervision, student broadcasting projects at the SJMC have won many regional awards. Meanwhile, he has experimented various methodologies of delivering journalistic contents with new media, including the stereoscopic video documentary in the John Edwards campaign rally in the Twin Cities in 2004. His video work, “Life is…” won the Upper-Midwest Emmy in 2000.

Chen has been interested in stereoscopic visual representation with digital technology and mobile digital media content distribution and presentation since he was a graduate student in the SJMC. He is currently doing research projects on streaming media dissemination and presentation with digital mobile technology and the potential applications of digital stereoscopic imaging in educational fields through network and mobile devices.

As the member of iFellow ’06 in the University of Minnesota, he has been working on developing his projects of mobile media content creation, distribution and presentation through network, and potentially making stereoscopic imagery accessible online with interactive features.

 

作为一位摄影师、电视片制作人和新媒体研究者,陈建中近二十年的专业生涯涉及了新闻摄影、电影和广播,以及多媒体研究和咨询领域。1999年,陈建中被列入了《中国摄影家百科全书》第一集。

作为一名自由摄影纂稿人和摄影师,陈建中关于摄影和影像文化的论文,以及摄影专题被发表于世界各地的媒体,其中包括中国的《大众摄影》、《摄影世界》、《人民摄影报》、《新民晚报》、香港的《文汇报》、新加坡的《联合早报》、马来西亚的《摄影人》、美国的《MURPHY’S MONTHLY》、BLEAKBEAUTY.COM、CROSS CULTURAL POETICS等。1996年,陈建中还参与了世界华人摄影家学会的《今日新加坡》摄影活动。1997年,他在新加坡法国语文中心策划举办了《中国希望工程》摄影展。1998年,他翻译的《摄影师的视觉感受》一书由中国摄影出版社出版,至2005年该书共印刷了3次。

1998年以来,陈建中在明尼苏达大学新闻学院和大学信息部从事新媒体研究和实验工作。同时,他还受聘为SOTHEBYS.COM和CASA DE ESPERANZA兼职媒体顾问,为INSTITUTE OF PRODUCTION AND RECORDING设计和规划影视制作大专全课程。他的摄影和电视片客户包括SCHUBERT CLUB、HUMAN RIGHTS FIRST、AMERICAN SOCIETY OF DOOR BELL COLLECTORS、AMERICAN YOUTH CIRCUS ASSOCIATION等。他有关数码立体影像的研究及实验受邀在DIGERATI、GEOWALL及多个新媒体研讨会上交流。2001年作为文化顾问,陈建中参与策划了在明尼阿波利斯艺术博物馆举办的《中国-50年在人民共和国》摄影展览,并作有关中国文化和影像的公共讲座,以及参与教师与讲解员培训。2005年,他受聘为MINNESOTA CENTER FOR PHOTOGRAPHY的《中国三峡》摄影展的策展研究员。

陈建中的音乐片《LIFE IS A CIRCLE》在第三届Really Independent Video Festival in Duluth, Minnesota和The American Television Annual Showcase for International Short Film and Video in San Diego, California参展,并在2000年获美国EMMY大学组娱乐类大奖。

陈建中拥有新闻学(视觉传媒)硕士学位。他的研究兴趣在影像文化的共通性和局限性;影像传播在现代传媒中的作用;立体影像在数字传媒中的复活和在交互式虚拟实境中的应用,以及交互式立体数字影像的文化含义。
