BSU Mission Statement

The Black Student Union was founded on January 14, 1969 as a means for Black students to come together. The Black Student Union shall provide an intellectual, cultural, and social environment for students as well as communty members. The Black Student Union exists to encourage a positive image of Black people and to support its members in achieving their educational goals. Though the Black Student Union, Black students at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, came to realize there was a need for them to come together as a group to discuss several issues faced by Black college students. Some of these issues are to:

  • Further Black awareness at University of Minnesota Twin Cities
  • Advocate for black students on and off campus
  • Create successful communication with black student organizations on and off campus
  • Make significant contributions in the community
  • Help ensure a successful academic and social college experience for Black students
