Shipping and Handling

New Postal Rates and Changes Effective May 12, 2008

Surface or sea mail is no longer available for shipments to any foreign country.

Surface mail is recommended for books shipped to addresses in the continental U.S., since there seems to be no connection between how long it takes and how far away the destination is, although boxes of seven may take a little longer than individual books. Surface mail to Hawaii and Alaska may take up to 3 to 5 weeks. If you want faster service, the shipping charge for one book in a flat-rate priority box is $10.00. A book shipped by priority mail costs $8.95 in postage.

As of May 12, 2008, below are the new shipping charges to the most common destinations:

Insurance

All books mailed between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day will be insured (the price of insurance will be added to shipping and handling charges) because of my past experience with books being thrown around recklessly during the holiday rush. At other times, books will be insured only at the customer's request.

The above rates do not include insurance. Insurance is highly desirable for overseas mail, at least for boxes of seven, which may split at the seams even if double-taped. I will insure boxes mailed to any place during the Christmas and holiday rush when boxes are often thrown around with abandon, due to the quantity of packages sent at that time.

Payment Method

The preferred method of payment is checks (including personal checks) in US dollars. If a check isn't feasible, a bank money order in US dollars is acceptable. Payment in foreign currency is also acceptable, but if you must pay in foreign currency, please add $1.50 for the conversion fee. Direct deposit to my bank is also possible, provided you have a fax number to which I can fax the bank information.

Note: The bank will consider all Canadian checks to be in Canadian dollars, even if you write "U.S." on the check. Only if you have a separate American checking account, on which the bank has stamped or printed "U.S. Dollars," will my bank treat it as such. International postal money orders in U.S. dollars are also acceptable.

Because of the cost of direct deposit (done by wire transfers, unless it is local), this method is discouraged and will be accepted only for funds sent by foreign retailers.

Genealogical queries are welcome if you have, or believe you may have, shared ancestors or collateral relatives. If there appears to be a match, I will gladly mail you a pedigree chart, with sources, additional information on some individuals, and lengthy endnotes which explain either the uncertain ancestors listed here or previously uncertain lineages I believe I have solved. I would greatly appreciate any additional information or corrections from those who may have such information.

For other queries, if I can answer your question, my consultation fee is $30.
