Welcome to the Minnesota PaleoWeb

This site is geared toward hobbyists, parents and educators interested in paleontology of the upper-midwest. It brings together photos of fossils commonly found in Minnesota, places to look for them, and sources for independent research.

Probably the best represented portion of the fossil record in Minnesota is the Ordovician, or about 500-440 million years ago. Lack of deposition and the scouring by glaciers has left us with a spotty record in comparison to other parts of North America. Still, you needn't travel to the coast to collect sea creatures -- just travel back a few hundred million years.
