Dakota County, now located in the southern part of the Saint Paul & Minneapolis metropolitan area, is one of the original 9 counties of the Minnesota Territory of 1849. At first, Dakotah County, later Dakota, stretched from the Mississippi to Missouri rivers. The county was greatly reduced in size a few times before Minnesota statehood (1858). This site focuses on genealogical information of that reduced area from 1907 to as far back as we can go.
