Minnesota Archaeological Newsletter - Introduction

The Minnesota Archaeologial Newsletter (MAN) first appeared in 1960, when it was produced in the Wilford Archaeology Lab and Anthropology Department, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. Its first editor was Elden Johnson, archaeology professor and state archaeologist. MAN appeared regularly for several years, then irregularly into the 1970s.

These e-text versions of MAN are presented both for their research value, and as documents pertaining to the history of archaeology in Minnesota. They have been formatted to approximate the appearance of the mimeographed originals, within reason and the limits imposed by HTML. Figures have not been included, although they may be added in the future.

The text is being entered by hand. Although the resulting e-text has been proofread with some care, no doubt it still contains typographical errors. If you spot any errors -- or likely errors -- please notify the webmaster.

Additional numbers in this series will be posted as they are entered and converted to HTML format.
