Here are some photos from the 2006 excavations:

Soil is carefully removed from the excavation, layer by layer.

Then the soil is passed through a screen to separate tiny artifacts which might otherwise go unnoticed.  These can include shards of window or bottle glass, ceramics, or animal bone.
