Klawiter, B	An Investigation into the Potential for Geochemical / Geoarchaeological Provenance of Prairie du Chien Cherts	Investigates the potential for geochemically distinguishing chert sources within the Prairie du Chien dolomite. Multivariate statistical techniques such as Principle Component Analysis and Discriminant Analysis were applied to a geochemical data derived by Neutron Activation Analysis of samples from southeast Minnesota and southwest Wisconsin. Results are effective at distinguishing widely separated sources, but precise provenance determination is difficult.

Bakken, K	Annotated Bibliography of the Old Copper Complex	This bibliography lists sources concerning the Old Copper complex. Where it was possible to review a source, a brief annotation is included. The bibliography attempts to be comprehensive for references relating directly to the Old Copper complex and for "catalog" information. A limited number of cross references are provided where they seem most useful.
Bakken, K	Lithic Raw Material Resources in Minnesota	Overview of lithic raw material resources in Minnesota, including diffuse raw material sources in extensive glacial drift cover, and more focal sources in primary geologic context. Defines and describes three raw material resource regions, each containing different sets of raw materials and types of raw material sources. Discusses analysis strategies within this context, and includes a cross referenced list of raw materials found at regional sites.
Skaar, K, and K Bakken	The Sandon Site Vessel	The Sandon site is located in south central Minnesota, on the Le Sueur River flood plain. Limited testing of a Middle Woodland component, discovered in a paleosol 180 cm below surface, recovered approximately 45% of a reconstructible ceramic vessel. This smooth surfaced, grit tempered vessel is subconoidal in form, with a high, straight rim, and vessel walls up to 14 mm thick. Decoration consists of cordwrapped stick impressions, vertical combing, and lunate impressions on the rim and upper shoulder. Carbonaceous residue from the vessel interior was dated to 2110 +/- 50 BP. The residue also contains phytoliths; a detailed phytolith analysis in progress is expected to yield information on Middle Woodland subsistence patterns.
