The harbor town of Whittier is one of Alaska'a strangest, wettest places. Every year Whittier gets about 15 feet of rain and 20 feet of show!

Due to the surroundings it was a perfect choice for the U.S. army's self-contained ice free port. The city of Whittier has about 150 people. Most of them live in a 14-story building. Even larger one was abandoned after the great 1964 earthquake (9.2 Mw).
