The Brain, Neurosciences, and Education SIG is requesting
proposals for papers to be presented at the annual meeting
of American Educational Research Association (AERA) in
New York City, March 24 to March 28. Possible topics include brain imaging
studies with implications for educational research or practice,
reviews of neuroscience research, and position papers advocating
or opposing the application of neuroscience in education.
Proposals must be sponsored by an AERA member, but
authors need not be members. SIG membership is
encouraged but not required. Papers can be presented in three types of forums: Paper Sessions, Poster Sessions, or Paper Discussions (see the AERA website for detailed descriptions). For acceptance, only a proposal outlining the paper is required. All proposals are reviewed blindly by at least two reviewers.
Guidelines, requirements, and submission instructions will be
available on the Annual Meeting page at the AERA website.
SIG Submission Guidelines
- All submitted proposals are sent out for blind review. Please follow the
summary suggestions for proposals in the
Call for Proposals.
- We are more likely to accept articles that discuss brain states or structure (as measured by MRI, EEG, MEG, ERPs, lesions, or anatomical studies) as opposed to those that present behavioral data only, unless there are clear neurological implications.
- We also accept papers that discuss how the neurosciences can provide insight into research problems in different disciplines, theoretical papers on the applicability of Neuroscience research to the field of Education, as well as reviews of research in the Neurosciences.
- Proposals that do not follow a disciplined line of inquiry are unlikely to be accepted. We normally expect that papers discussing Neuroscience will cite primary sources and not rely exclusively on secondary ones.
- Papers using technologies such as fMRI or ERPs are reviewed by neuroscience researchers and must contain an adequate description of the experimental design, methodology, and analysis so that the validity of the proposal can be assessed.
- When submitting a proposal please select the three categories of:
paper, poster, and paper discussion. Doing so will increase the likelihood of your proposal being accepted.
