• ASU & Affiliate policies
o Office hours
Please sign up ASAP if you have already turned in your affiliate form
Email asu@umn.edu if you didn’t receive the emails from ASU.
o Event co-sponsorship (Paul)
• Quiet Hours
o Enforce Monday-Thursday from 2-4, at least until the next GA meeting.
• Jimmy: GA (general members) should speak up to ASU when they want to volunteer for events
• ASU has a “pre trash” bin. If you leave something in ASU, we will place it in the pre trash bin and you should look there. The bin will be tossed/emptied at the end of the week.
• Event Reflections (how did it go, what went well, what could be improved, etc.)
o Ice Cream Social
Low-balled the budget, b/c they were on sale.
Gone in 12 minutes
Perhaps start it later next year, b/c 11:15 is when class gets out, but we were out by 11:12…
Talk about ASU as you take out the ice cream from the box, so they are not just taking and leaving.
Make a one per person policy?
Stay out passing out fliers after ice cream runs out
Good job with PRing, people had heard about it.
How useful is this event, if it only lasts 12 minutes? Freeze pops instead?
Chalking is effective, after asking people at the Open House where they heard about it.
Have 2 locations? All the language students are around Folwell, but by the time they make it here it’s gone.
o Open House
Really, really crowded. Good turnout. Would have been nice to have more affiliates. We did send an email asking them to sign up
Email President and the group email
Would have been nice to see ASU board members going out and talking to more people than just the people they knew
First batch of pizza ran out faster than the second, the second batch had 10 more pizzas ordered.
Room set-up is key in generating the interest for ASU and affiliates
Order more pizza in the first round
Once again, chalking is effective, let the board know when you plan to chalk.
• Kick Off (recap of event, last minute planning, etc.)
o Game Night – Friday, September 19, 6-8pm, Goldy’s Gameroom
Table outside, with the board.
Nametags for people who want them?
o Karaoke Night – Friday, September 26, 730-10pm, Mississippi Room
Alternative to Amy T.
Corey-oke rental.
Room set-up is round tables in the back, regular chairs in the front. Extra chairs will be stacked on the side.
We’ll have to make sure food is kept in room
• Activities Fair – Tuesday, September 16, 10am-2pm
o Materials and handouts ready?
We need to find a cheap place to print the brochures, so we can print a lot
Do the jelly candy sticks (get 4 buckets) and then also get regular candy to hand out.
Irene will buy regular candy, Meky buying the jelly sticks
• SIGN UP FOR KICK OFF AND ACTIVITIES FAIR
• Paint the Lantern – ASU & VSAM
o Friday, September 19 @ Noon-4pm in Room 326
o Updates (Ellyn)
Ellyn ordered the lanterns
We MuST cover the tables, b/c ASU is liable for any damage done to furniture in the room
• Halloween – figure out room
o October 24 – 7:30 to 10pm
o Discuss location – Mississippi room?
Mississippi room sounds good, everyone would be together more
Categories for costume contest?
Bring ideas to the next meeting
• Everything else
o AnySoldier (Irene)
Run for 4-6 weeks, $9 a box to send. Ask for money donation as well as items.
At the end of the collection, have a packing day to pack all the items in boxes.
1) how are we going to turn around from last year’s canned food drive?
2) how are we going to get people to donate/where we going to collect?
3) monetary wise, is it affordable?
TCAR talk to other schools get involved?
“trick or treat” not on Halloween, but go out to suburban neighborhoods to collect items
Also get our affiliates and GA involved
Month of November, go door to door on Veterans Day? Get everyone involved. Funding is pending.
o Yoga (Meky & David)
Yoga Tuesday? ASU closes at 5 PM, but people stay longer. Have yoga for 1 hour, Feline is very enthusiastic about being an instructor, and Luna is willing to help with it as well.
Get it started by next Tuesday? See how it goes, and go from there about how long to continue it for.
• MAASU: Fall leadership conference, Spring is the Spring Conference
o University of Missouri Nov 14-16 is the fall conference.
o Fee to attend the conference, if we’re members of MAASU
o $90 per school to be members.
o Investigate into what MAASU is, bring back to table next week
• Experience Minnesota: November 15th, campus tour for prospective students
o ASU willing to participate? Jimmy said yes, so we will need a few representatives there to hold the room open
o Kha said he will most likely be able to keep the room open
• Volunteering contact needed from Paul
• Ask affiliates for GA event in November
