Regional Steel Bridge Conference

March 22-24, 2012

The University of Minnesota will be holding this year's Regional Steel Bridge Conference. There will be much to look forward to: a social event at the Xcel Energy Center to cheer on the Minnesota Wild, a banquet at TCF Bank Stadium featuring Jason Barger as the keynote speaker, and the competition held at Mariucci Arena where students will put their hard work to the test. We look forward to seeing students from around the region convene on our campus for an exciting weekend!

If you are a student or professional who would like to volunteer or participate in this event, please contact Ashley Marcott at marco064@umn.edu for further information. Your support is appreciated!

Brown Bag Lunches

The University of Minnesota ASCE Student Chapter tries to host a brown bag lunch at least once a week during the semester. The lunches are usually held on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday at 11:00am or Noon, and are held in the CE Undergrad Student Lounge. Lunch is provided for all members of the Student Chapter.

Information for Corporations

While the student chapter may contact companies about giving a presentation, we are delighted when we hear from a company that wishes to speak to our students. If you or your company would like to present to the students of the Civil Engineering department at the University of Minnesota, you may contact the outreach chairs of the ASCE Student Chapter. The 2010 chair to contact is Ben Pierce. Ben may be reached via e-mail at bb.asce.mn@gmail.com.

Undergraduate - Graduate Student Mentor Matching Program

How it works:

Undergraduate and Graduate students interested in the program will fill out the questionnaires located outside the ASCE office (Room 217). Based on shared interests, ASCE will play match make; pairing you up with a graduate student. Once you have been matched with a mentor, both you and your mentor will receive an email containing each other's contact information.

Why join?:

Graduate student mentors can be a great resource. You can ask them questions about graduate school, gain advice about undergraduate classes, learn about facilities they use and maybe even get some hands on experience while occasionally helping out your mentor with their project/research. On top of all that, it's one more positive experience to put on your resume!

Take your Professor to Lunch

Interested in a professor's research? hoping for a letter of recommendation but wish you knew your professor better? You and two other students can take your professor to lunch... and let ASCE pick up the tab!

How it works:

Set up a time/date with the professor you would like to take to lunch On your way out stop by our office with your professor and the entire party, and we'll give you up to $10 a person.
