H. 'Kabitan'

Who says hostas have to be big to be impressive? When I first got interested in hostas I really enjoyed only the big ones. Now that I have developed more sophisticated tastes (that is said with tongue implanted firmly in cheek), I've come to appreciate the subtler appearance of the smaller hostas. H. 'Kabitan" is one of my favorites and one of the first small hostas I coveted. As you can see, It has a lance shaped leaf, gold with a green border. It has a slight seersuckering to its edges. Each plant is about 8 inches in height and can reach 10 inches across when mature. 'Kabitan" can spread by above ground runners (called stolons). It grows easily for me and is readily available from hosta growers and even at many garden centers. Of the two specimens in this photo, the one farther away is about a year older than the near one.
