Many people, including Dr. Bob Olson of St. Louis Park, MN, past President of the American Hosta Society, consider H. montana ''Aureomarginata' to be the king of hostas. It has glossy variegated leaves that can reach 12 inches across. A mature clump can be 3.5 feet tall and 4 feet across. It has a vase-like growth habit. It's a slow grower, but one of the earliest plants to emerge in the spring. This plant has been in this location for about three years. The picture was taken around Memorial Day of 1996.
