H. 'Love Pat'

H. 'Love Pat' is a medium to large plant that's member of the Tokudama Group of hostas. They are characterized by heavy leaf substance and cupping of the leaf. 'Love Pat', like many tokudamas, is bluish in color. It's leaves are heavily corrugated, in addition to the cupping. I find it a very impressive plant. It looks very similar to H. 'Big Daddy' which I also have and enjoy (especially since I personally am both big and a daddy). It grows about two feet high and spreads about the same across. The flowers are range from pale lavender to white, depending on the growing season. I haven't been able to figure out which growing conditions send the color in a particular direction, so the color is always a surprise to me when 'Love Pat' blooms. It is also popular in England. British hosta author Diana Grenfell reports that it won an Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society.
