H. 'Gold Edger'

This plant was purchased as a tissue culture start. It came in a tube-like pot no bigger around than a finger and about as long. I bought several 'Gold Edger' and several H. nigrescens for about the price of one medium desirable hosta. It took about three years for the 'Gold Edgers' to reach standard size and about four for nigrescens (a much larger platnt). Tissue culture can be done with a very small piece of the original plant. Some tissue culture can be done with a little as a single cell (in some ferns). Usually the tissue culture plants are excat clones of the original. Rarely the chemicals and nutrients needed to promote tissue culture cause a mutation. Some interesting plants have resulted!
