Helen is the oldest daughter of Ernest Gilbert Standing and Asenath Jane Standing (Henderson). She taught at the Bear Creek School from 1932 to 1934.

She was born in March 19, 1916, near Earlham, Iowa. She and her three sisters took up sketching following the example of their grandfather, Henry Standing. She became a public health nurse and currently lives at 571 Northup Rd., Gallipolis, OH 45631.
