Marian Fox Gill

Born 1879; probably in Yorkshire; died at Capetown, South Africa in 1934.  She was unmarried and at the time of her death was living with her brother Leonard, who was director of the South African Museum.   

She had paintings in various European galleries.  She was a daughter of Joseph John Gill and Lucy Cheal, who were first cousins. Joseph John Cheal was the son of Benjamin Gill of Dewsbury, Yorkshire and Hannah Fox.

Lucy Cheal was a daughter of John Cheal ("the 2nd")  of Crawley, Sussex, and Mary Fox. Hannah Fox and Mary Fox were daughters of David Fox of Dewsbury, by his first marriage, to Sarah Wilby.

They were older half-sisters of Deborah Fox who married George Standing.  Martha Cheal, sister of John Cheal ("the 2nd"), married John Standing. They were the parents of George Standing who married Deborah Fox.
