I have been working at the AILRC for just over a month now and have
worked here a year before that for the length of one year. I'm the
computer guy around here, but unfortunately I'm strictly Mac oriented
(for those looking for help though I do know
an intermediate amount of Windows). I work at the front desk, in my job
description anyway, but you'll find me elsewhere since their are no
computers in the commons area of the LRC, yet.
Graduation is one course away for me, but I hope to be around for some time afterwards to aid in the transitions in the technology around the office. This new office power will be made accessible to the students once it is in place. It includes T1 (=super-fast) connections to the University Network and the advanced electronic communication that is associated--to boot. Two computers will be provided in our office that support Netscape, PopMail, and other such utilities, but most importantly: Word 6.0.1 for papers. The Cultural Center also has two good computers for similar functions but could use a little upgrading which will have to wait.
Anyway, I have a life outside of computers, really. I am a Film Studies major (=cultural studies with a film twist) and love writing. I am trying to keep this interest active outside of money making since their is little money to be made in the fie ld.
I come from International Falls (a.k.a. Frostbite Falls and YES it's cold), Minnesota home of Smokey the Bear and the place where trees are turned into sulfurous clouds. I was born in Fort Frances, Ontario--a suburb of the Couchiching First Nation t o which I belong. I was actually born in the back of a Taxi cab going across the international border. I guess, I have been impatient from the get-go.
I am the webmaster (I didn't make the word up all by myself, really) and any questions regarding this website should be directed to me (if not so specific then mail to the AILRC address). Also, I can be helpful when I have time so if you need assistance with your electronic doings around here, I am the one to talk to here. I can help you with your account, setting up S/LIPware such as Netscape, etc; and I can get you set up with an ideal program for student access (for viewing grades, libra ry stuff, etc.).
So when you come by the LRC feel free to ask me any questions. If I can't help you right away I'll direct you to some of the help areas around campus. And, for those interested in this particular medium, I will barter services to help you set up you r own site. I dream of a day when all students have web pages. Well, at least most Indian students.
