Points Program
Our points program has been created to reward active participation in AED. Each time you participate in any kind of AED event, you will be awarded points. At the end of each semester, the top contenders in the points program will have the chance to win an MCAT prep course!

You must be a local member to participate in the points program.

5 points are awarded for each of the following activities.
  • Attend a Meeting
  • Membership in Local Chapter (paying dues)
  • National Membership
  • Attend an Initiation Dinner
  • Help AED 'Paint the Bridge'
  • Bring a Friend to a Meeting and he/she becomes a member of AED
  • Represent AED at an Event on Campus (ex. help at our booth at an activities fair)
  • Participate in an AED Volunteer Event
  • National AED Membership (paying dues and completing an application)
  • Attend an AED sponsored event

Points may also be awarded to other future activities not already listed. The amounts given for each activity will be up to the discretion of the AED officers. Remember, if you sign up for an event and do not show up (emergencies withstanding), the number of points that would have been earned will be deducted from your point balance. At the end of the each semester, the six Points Program participants with the highest total from the semester will be offered the opportunity to write a personal statement in the same fashion as if applying to medical school. AED's advisor, Judy Beniak, will then evaluate these personal statements. The top candidate will receive a free MCAT prep course from either Kaplan or the Princeton Review valued at approximately $1700!

Also, it is important to be actively involved in AED. It's not enough just being a member, even if you are a national member. Your medical school interview is going to ask you about volunteering and what you did with the group. Remember: grades and MCAT alone won't get you into medical school! Definitely shoot for making the top 6 in our points program. Think about how attractive being one of the most actively involved members in a pre-medical honors society would be on your medical school application!

In order to participate in the points program, just make sure that you sign our attendance sheet at each meeting or volunteer event. There are other activities not listed that you can do to gain points, so be sure to ask an AED officer if you have any questions at all. And yes, all AED officers are ineligible for the points program. If you have any questions regarding our points system (things not listed on here, your status, points not earned, etc.), please direct them towards our Vice President, Ali Key at keyxx025@umn.edu.
