Dr. Shepela will talk about his work as a gastroenterologist and his research on Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Dr. Shepela is currently involved in the development of an Inflammatory Bowel Disease treatment center and clinical research unit here at the University of Minnesota.

Dr. Robert D. Acton, Pediatric Surgeon
Come hear from a successful surgeon and former AED member! Robert D. Acton, MD, received his undergraduate degree from The Ohio State University where he was a member of Alpha Epsilon Delta. Currently, Dr. Acton is Assistant Professor of Surgery & Pediatrics at the University of Minnesota. He is also Medical Student Course Director for the University of Minnesota School of Medicine. Dr. Acton's clinical interests include pediatric robotic surgery, neonatal minimally invasive surgery, and gastrointestinal anomalies. In addition to clinical practices, Dr. Acton has also performed research on topics such as stem cell therapies for Short Bowel Syndrome and temperature regulation during surgery.

After attending Mysore Medical College in India, Dr. Prasad completed both a Family Medicine residency and fellowship at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI. Dr. Prasad’s clinical interests include Primary care, continuity of care, and community based care.

AED Fall 2007 Initiation Banquet
The AED Fall Banquet is approaching quickly! Our lunch banquet will be held at Grandma’s Restaurant at Seven Corner’s on Sunday, December 2nd. The agenda includes a contest for a free Kaplan MCAT Prep Course, the AED Tip Book unveiling, certificates, a prize drawing, and great food! The meal includes a pasta buffet and beverages. It only costs $5, which can be paid there. Only AED members who have paid their local dues can attend, due to the MCAT Prep Course Contest! International Opportunities in Medicine
Medical and pre-medical students will discuss their medical experiences abroad such as delivering babies in Ecuador, working in clinics in Thailand and Cambodia, and volunteering with the Red Cross in South Africa.
