and Related Areas
by Edward R. Brandt, Ph.D., and Adalbert Goertz, Ph.D.
Companion volume for the Genealogical Guide to East and West Prussia
Preview
- Chapters will generally be parallel to those in the Genealogical
Guide to East and West Prussia, with appropriate modifications such as
the peripheral relevance of the Teutonic Order and the greater relevance of
Sweden.
- Many chapters will be shorter, with fewer examples of publications illustrating
the use of different kinds of records. On the other hand, all foreign titles,
including those in the appendices, will be translated.
- “Related areas” refers to areas which (1) were formerly (or
are presently) part of the same jurisdiction (Great Poland, South Prussia,
the Grand Duchy of Warsaw, contemporary Brandenburg, the eastern tip of Saxony)
or (2) to which residents (chiefly Germans) from the eastern areas migrated
(Bessarabia, the Odessa area, Mennonites in the Russian Empire) before their
descendants migrated overseas.
- A deliberate effort will be made to include more Polish-oriented and English-language
material than in the Genealogical Guide to East and West Prussia.
The appendices that are already completed (or partially completed) include:
