U-DFL Endorsement Rules for All-Campus Elections

  1. Any University of Minnesota Student who is eligible to fill the position they seek endorsement for.  The U-DFL shall open endorsements for all positions on the ballot within the All Campus Elections Commission.
  2. The U-DFL shall endorse no more students than the All Campus elections Commission information packet indicates open positions for.
  3. Voting for single seat positions, such as MSA President and Vice President, shall be done by secret ballot. 
    1. A candidate must receive support of 60% of the votes for endorsement.
    2. If the first ballot does not give 60% of the votes to one candidate, all candidates except those receiving the first or second highest vote totals from the first ballot will be removed as eligible candidates for endorsement.  In the case of a tie for second highest total, all tied candidates will remain eligible candidates for a second ballot.
    3. If still no candidate receives 60% of the vote, balloting may continue for unlimited numbers of ballots according to rule 3b until a candidate receives 60% of the vote.
    4. A motion for no endorsement shall be in order after two ballots and shall be approved by a simple majority.
  4. Voting for multi-seat positions will be done by slate.
    1. Candidates require a nomination and a second to join the slate.
    2. Candidates can be removed from the slate by a majority vote.
    3. The slate shall be approved by a 60% affirmative vote.
  5. Voting Requirements:

a. Voting rights shall not be denied to anyone who has attended two meetings in the past 12 months and is not a member of any other political party.

  1. As stated in the U-DFL Constitution, the U-DFL will not support any candidate other than the endorsed candidate
