Constitution
ARTICLE I- GENERAL
Section 1: The official name of this organization shall be the U Badminton Club.

Section 2: The club shall operate as a non-profit organization.

Section 3: The club shall abide by the applicable rules and policies of the University of Minnesota pertaining to student organizations.

Section 4: This organization shall exist for the following purposes:
  1. To promote badminton and create awareness of badminton to those in the University of Minnesota twin cities campus community.
  2. To provide a friendly supporting community for students who are interested in badminton.
ARTICLE II - MEMBERSHIP/IMPEACHMENT
Section 1: Membership is open to all students, faculty and staff at the University of Minnesota, and people who are not affiliated with the University of Minnesota but want to participate.

Section 2: Membership is open to all badminton enthusiasts without regard to race, religion, color, sex, national origin, disability, age, veteran status, creed, marital status, public assistance status, or sexual orientation.

Section 3: To become a member, one must fill out the membership application form either through our website or manually and return it to the secretary of the club.

Section 4: Any member/officer may be impeached for misconduct (to be defined by the group (for example - failure to perform duties, attendance, misuse of funds, etc.) The member/officer shall be given a seven day notice and an opportunity to defend him/herself. This impeachment vote shall require a 2/3 majority vote.

ARTICLE III - OFFICERS
Section 1: Two committees execute the club-related affairs. A Board of Directors shall consist of four student officers, including one president and three officers. A Working Committee shall consist of all the four student officers and a few other officers, including at least a treasurer, an advisor, and a secretary/coordinator.

Section 2: All Officers in the Board of Directors must be currently enrolled students at the University of Minnesota and registered for at least six credits. Exceptions to the requirement are permitted for graduate students upon receipt of a letter from the Director of Graduate Studies of the student's department certifying that the student is actively pursuing a degree.

Section 3: Members of the Working Committee (except for the officers in the Board of directors) do not have to be a student or a faculty/staff member, but must be willing and enthusiastic to work for U Badminton Club voluntarily.

Section 4: Members of the working committee including the Board of Directors shall be elected during a vote and shall serve for a period of one year.

Section 5: The duties of the two committees are as follows:

The Working Committee deals with club-related everyday affairs. Its duties include but are not limited to: organize inter-club and extra-club events, reserve courts, maintain the club website, organize votes, manage the membership fees, and organize trainings. The Board of Directors listens to the reports of the working committee and makes sure that the working committee is working efficiently and actively. Specifically,

  1. Board of directors - Act as official representatives of the club at other meetings and events. Preside at meetings of the club. Make decisions about club affairs. The president is the head of the Board of Directors.
  2. Secretary/coordinator - Record and produce minutes of all meetings. Handle the club's correspondence. Keep fine records.
  3. Treasurer - Handle all financial transactions of the club. Maintain thorough and accurate records of all transactions. Produce financial reports as required by the club.
  4. Advisor - Oversees the management of the club, provide advices, and help train new Student Officers. Preside over meetings of the club.

ARTICLE IV - MEETING
Section 1: A regular meeting shall be held at least once every three months during the calendar year. All the members of the Working Committee of the club are required to attend the meetings. Members are welcome to attend the meeting. A special meeting may be called by the officers or by a petition of ten percent of the membership.

Section 2: Decisions of the club shall be enacted by a majority vote (2/3) of the members who voted, unless otherwise stated in this constitution.

ARTICLE V - FINANCIAL MATTERS
Section 1: The club shall not provide monetary gain, incidentally or otherwise to its officers or membership. An individual cannot be the recipient of any funds of the club.

ARTICLE VI - BY-LAWS
Section 1: By-Laws may be proposed by the membership and may be adopted by a majority vote.

ARTICLE VII - AMENDMENTS
Section 1: Amendments to the constitution may be proposed by any member of the club. Such proposals shall be submitted in writing to the secretary for a first reading to the officers at the regular meeting prior to the meeting at which the proposed amendment is to be voted on.

Section 2: Duty proposed amendments shall be submitted to a vote of the members. A 2/3 majority vote in favor shall be required for adoption of such amendments.

ARTICLE VIII - Dissolution of Organization
If the organization is to be dissolved, a vote will be hold among the existing members. If there is no objection, the club will be dissolved. The remaining funds of the club shall be donated to the University of Minnesota through a formal procedure and the receipts shall be preserved by the treasurer as proof for at least one year after the dissolution. No individual can be the recipient of any remaining funds.
