"I had the best race of my life in the Aquatic Center at the U.S. Open. I raced unrested, unshaved and untapered against the best two or three swimmers in the world and won. It (the Aquatic Center) is probably the finest training facility anywhere. The pool is fast; it's just a great competitive center."
--Mike Barrowman
1992 Olympic Gold Medalist

Located east of Cooke Hall, the University Aquatic Center was fashioned to meet or exceed Olympic standards. Nearly two acres in size, the Aquatic Center houses a 50 meter, 713,000 gallon competition pool. An eight-ton, five foot wide bulkhead allows the pool to support eighteen 25 yard racing lanes or eight 50 meter racing lanes. The 493,000 gallon diving well features a pair of one- and three-meter boards as well as 1, 5, 7.5 and 10-meter platforms, and a bubbler. There is seating for 1,356 plus room for another 1,200 in temporary bleachers.

Adjacent to the training pool are the swimmers and divers' training and weight rooms. Two underwater viewing windows provide opportunities for training purposes or television cameras while wet and dry classrooms serve for team meetings, classes, media work area and rubdowns.

"The Aquatic Center is one of the most comfortable

facilities that I have ever dived in. The lighting is

excellent and the boards are smooth. I usually do

not like to dive indoors, but of the indoor facilities,

this has to rate as one of the best."

Greg Louganis
Olympic and World Champion Diver

The University Aquatic Center is open to University of Minnesota students, staff, and faculty. Lap swimming is offered seven days a week and open recreational diving is offered during limited hours. The UAC is also host to Twin City Divers, Minnesota's premier developmental, elite springboard and platform diving program and the Twin Cities Swim Team, a competitive and developmental based program.
