The Railroad Club at the University of Minnesota is proud to announce the return of GopherRail!   This year it will be bigger and better than ever before.

This is the club's biggest fund raiser and all the proceeds help support the next generation of rail enthusiasts.


Coming up on the schedule for GopherRail 2008:

*Classic railfan videos all day long from Bob Rivard!
*Numerous presentations on prototype and modeling topics
*Open house at the University of Minnesota Railroad Club permanent layout
*Huge modular layout organized by the Minnesota Free-Mo Modelers

Presentations include

10:00 - Railfanning Outstate Minnesota - go trackside with "MN Chris" Muller
11:00 - Passenger Rail planning - Frank Lotterle talks about rail planning in the Twin Cities
1:00 - Build a prototype model railroad - Clark Propst shows how to create your layout
2:00 - Intro to Free-Mo - all you need to know about the world of Free-Mo model railroading
3:00 - Behind the scenes with 261 - Steve Sandberg talks about the famed steam locomotive
4:00 - Shortline Railroading - learn about Progressive Rail and shortline work with Joe Fehr
5:00 - Model Progressive Rail - Joe Fehr shows how to model the PGR and its operations
(all shows subject to change without notice)

 

 Plus - Classic railroad videos by Bob Rivard from around the area all day on the big screen, travel out west with classic BNSF footage

 

Open Mic Night (starts at 6 pm) - Who knows, you could be the next big star!  In the evening we'll be opening the floor to you so bring your slides, PowerPoint presentations, handouts, etc.  Sign up sheets will be posted the day of the show with first come first serve 1/2 hour slots.  All railroad topics past and present, modeling and prototype, are fair game!

 


Tickets are $7 at the door with a $2 discount to all students, U of M staff/students are free.


All GopherRail activities will be located in the 1701 Building at 1701 University Ave. S.E. in Minneapolis on the University of Minnesota campus and conveniently located just a few blocks from numerous Dinkytown and Stadium Village restaurants.


Directions to 1701 University Ave SE (Minneapolis):

From I-94: Exit Huron, take Huron to 4th Ave.  Show is one block south of 4th and 17th.

From 35W [north metro]: Exit 4th/University Ave.  Take University Ave (one way), we're on the corner of University and 17th. 

From 35W [south metro due to the 35W bridge]: Exit to 94 east and follow above directions for I-94

Parking - ramp on 17th between 4th Ave and 5th Ave.  Flat lots and meters on 5th Ave

Bus/train: Visit MetroTransit and use their great trip planner!
