SAME-SEX MARRIAGE and the

UNITARIAN UNIVERSALISTS CHURCHES

This portal collects Internet resources supporting the freedom to marry
from all dimensions of the Unitarian Universalist movement.

For readers unfamiliar with Unitarian Universalism,
we are a very liberal, creed-free religious movement,
with over 1,000 congregations in North America.

Because most religious organizations are opposed to same-sex marriage
or at least do not strongly favor marriage for gay and lesbian couples
reporters and producers from the news media
are often looking for alternative view-points.
This portal provides national and local connections
for any such news stories that want a religious view-point
that favors the right of persons of the same sex to create legal marriages.

LINKS TO ORGANIZATIONS

UNITARIAN UNIVERSALIST ASSOCIATION

This is the website of our national association of congregations.
It links to all the official statements and positions taken by the UUA.
And it provides links to news items
illustrating UU support for same-sex marriage.

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Ministries

    This program has been operating
in the Unitarian Universalist Association since 1973.
Its website will give you the history of UUA affirmation
of the dignity and rights of all sex-and-gender minorities.
You will also find books, curriculum materials for children and adults,
and links to other groups with websites.
Perhaps most important, this office coordinates
the Welcoming Congregations Program of the UUA,
which helps local congregations to become more
open and welcoming to people of all sex-and-gender minorities.
As of 2011, 63% of the US local congregations
that make up the Unitarian Universalist Association
are Welcoming Congregations.

Interweave

Interweave is a social, educational, & political network
for lesbian, gay, bisexual, & transgender Unitarian Universalists
and their heterosexual allies.
An annual Convocation brings together
members and friends from all over the country.
And at the annual General Assembly
of the Unitarian Universalist Association
Interveave always has a strong presence,
promoting the dignity and rights of sex-and-gender minorities
within Unitarian Universalism.
