Membership in the
World Wide Cyber Community

As the name suggests, membership in the
World Wide Cyber Community
will be open to anyone, anywhere in the world,
who has a computer connected to the Internet.

One of the most serious drawbacks of a virtual congregation
is that the members probably will never meet one another in person.
(If there are enough in any one geographical area,
they could decide to get together occasionally.
But basically we will only know one another thru our computer screens.)

To overcome some of this anonymity,
member profiles will be maintained somewhere in cyber-space.
These files will only be accessible to other members of WWCC.
Each member will write a one-page description of himself or herself.
These files will be organized by
(1) an alphabetical listing of names,
(2) geographical area of the world,
(3) spiritual path.
These files will enable members who live close to each other
to make some face-to-face contacts.
Members on similar spiritual pathswherever they live
will be able to share their quests.

Each member profile will contain everything
you wish to reveal about yourself.
These member profiles will only be available to other members.
But since membership will be open,
it will not be difficult for people to become members
in order to read the member profiles.

So, please keep this in mind
when putting information into your member profile.
For instance, you do not need to put in your phone number or address.
But your city (or other geographical area) should be included.
Your e-mail address will be the only way other members can contact you
unless you give additional information about yourself
to individuals who contact you by e-mail.

You may have a personal home page,
which contain information available to everyone on the Internet.
If so, simply give the URL for your website,
plus any additional information (for example, your UU connections)
that might be of interest to other members of the WWCC.

Your member profile will empower other members
to make contact with you by e-mail
if something you say in a discussion
or other communication with the whole membership
inspires them to write to you individually.

If you are not ready to join the WWCC,
you may remain a subscriber for as long as you wish.
Subscribers will not be able to read the member profiles,
but all who wish to receive the cyber-sermons
and other electronic communications from the WWCC
can be put on the list of subscribers.

    You may become a SUBSCRIBER
by sending your name and e-mail address to the webmaster:
James Park, e-mail: PARKx032@TC.UMN.EDU
You remove your name in the same way.
Since this is a real person,
you may include any other comments in your letter also.

If you are ready to become a member of the WWCC,
go on to Creating Your Member Profile.
