The Church of Saint Søren
An Internet Community of Existential Spirituality

The Church of Saint Søren began to operate on Feb. 14, 2003,
with the distribution of the first cyber-sermon.
This Internet gathering of like-minded people
from all over the world operates by means of
an electronic mailing list and this website.

We seek to explore and extend the possibilities of spirit
that were opened up by Soren Kierkegaard (1813-1855).
We would like to expand his beginnings
into a full, living tradition of existential spirtuality.

Existential spirituality is outlined in the first cyber-sermon:
"Introducing Existential Spirituality" .

Several books exploring existential spirituality are reviewed here:
Existential Spirituality Bibliography.
This bibliography includes reviews of
several books by Soren Kierkegaard.

At present there are more than 700 million computers
that can read this home page.
Perhaps only one in a million of these people
is interested in existential spirituality.
But that is still more than 700 people world-wide,
which could make a meaningful community on the Internet.
If you are reading these words,
you might be one of these people.
At present there are about 150 members of this community.

I live in a geographical location with 2 millions souls
---the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota.
If only one person in a million is interested in existential spirituality,
this means that there is only one other person in the Twin Cities
who shares this spiritual perspective.
And he is already a member of this group in cyber-space.

But by means of the Internet,
people who live anywhere in the world
are able to find one another:
Are YOU interested in communicating about existential spirituality?

This Internet community of existential spirituality
will not engage in Kierkegaard scholarship.
Discussion of what Kierkegaard wrote and what he meant
will not be a part of the Church of St. Soren.
Just as SK himself would not have spent his life
interpreting his past written works
but would have continued to create new and original thoughts,
so we will endeavor to extend his tradition.
If SK were alive today, what would he have to say?

We shall seek to go forward from his foundation.
Existential spirituality is not an academic interest.
Rather it is a living possibility.

HOW TO JOIN THE MAILING LIST

The Church of St. Soren shares a mailing list
with another group that was originally gathered to discuss
freedom from our Existential Predicament
---the Existential Freedom Group.

You put your name and e-mail address on this list
by sending a blank message to:
ExistentialFreedom-subscribe@yahoogroups.com .
There is no charge to join this mailing list.

Later, the Church of St. Soren might have its own mailing list,
especially if we can find a list-provider who classifies lists
in such a way that searchers on the Internet
would be able to discover the Church of St. Soren.
Since existential spirituality will not be recognized
as a distinct spiritual tradition for about 100 years,
we cannot expect to see it listed alongside
the many organized religions of the world.
But there might be some point in listing
our emerging group under Soren Kierkegaard himself,
alongside other lists that are discussing his works, etc.
Please offer suggestions for such a location and list-provider.
