Message From The President
Greetings!!!!
My name is Meron Demissie and I am honored and excited to be serving as President of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) for the 2007-2008 academic year. My role is to work with energetic team to oversee the affairs and operations of the student society. This year, I plan to continue the legacy of our NSBE forefathers and strive to increase the number of responsible, minority engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community. After all, that is our mission and that is our goal.
One of the main directives of this year is to increase NSBE's visibility on campus and involvement in the community. We also plan to strength and broaden our relationship with corporate sponsors. This year, our chapter is pleased to host the IT Multicultural Career Fair which will be held in the Spring 2008 semester at a date that will be communicated to you. We believe that the IT Multicultural Fair will be mutually beneficial to both students and companies.
NSBE’s involvement in the technical outreach community help program will serve as one of the many means to extend its on-campus visibility beyond its organizational walls. We plan to give back to the community by lending technical expertise, personal effort and attention to surrounding inner-city high school students. By reaching out to our youth and serving as role models and motivators, we allow them the opportunity to realize success and its possibility through positive means. Our goal is to extend our campus visibility beyond our organizational walls.
In addition, NSBE aims to promote personal growth through leadership development and academic and technical excellence. As leaders, we know that we are more productive when we support and encourage each other. We are able to excel through collaboration because leadership flourishes at every level of our organization. Our efforts will continue to be centered on increasing chapter involvement and developing local leadership that responds to the challenges of the future.
Diversity is a key focus at NSBE – we believe that the growth and development of our organization provides a diverse body open to all qualified students without regard to race, religion, color, sex, national origin, etc. NSBE is continually building programs that encourage and support all lifestyles, ideals, and backgrounds, and we’re committed to investing in practices that are encouraging to everyone. We demonstrate commitment to continued growth in diversity through short-term, outreach initiatives and long-term, comprehensive programs, designed to foster partnerships with diversity-focused organizations and events. With this, fulfillment of NSBE’s mission will be accomplished.
