Welcome to My Page

This is my personal page. It reflects my interests and activities. I hope you will find it of some interest. The major effort has been to present some useful information about hostas, the growing of which has become somewhat of an obsession. I am also passionate about my work at Radio K, and about Macintosh computers. And, in June 2002 I went to Kenya in East Africa for five weeks of teaching, learning and safari.

	Africa In 2000, I met officials from Daystar University in Nairobi, Kenya, through my actvities at church. When they learned I was the manager of a college radio station, they invited me to come to Kenya to consult with them, as they were building one of the first college radio stations in Africa. I did go to Kenya in the summer of 2002, to consult with them and to teach a three week course on Radio Announcing and Production. Here are some photos my wife and I took while we were in Nairobi and on safari.
	Hostas One of my favorite non-work, non-computing activities is gardening. I'm not particularly good at it (because I don't work at it hard enough), but I enjoy the results. In the last few years I have become what my wife calls a hosta addict. Actually I have a very mild case of the disease. I grow around 80 varieties in my yard, but add a few more every chance I get. I know home gardeners who have several hundred different varieties and who have paid up to several hundred dollars apiece for some of them. 	Radio In real life I am the station manager of Radio K (KUOM-AM) at the Universty of Minnesota. Radio K is a student operated, professionally supervised AM radio station broadcasting in a 60 to 90 mile radius of the Twin Cities. Our format is alternative music, with liberal doses of news and sports.
	Computer Consulting I also have a small computer consulting business, BEMCo Computer Consulting, which operates out of my home. I work primarily with individuals and small organizations (profit and non-profit) to help select, purchase, and install hardware, software and networks. I also help users to learn how to use their computers. Because of their ease of set up and use, I do have a bias toward Apple Macintosh computers.
