About Us

The American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) Student Chapter at the University of Minnesota was established in February 2002 with the primary objectives being to (1) increase student participation in the AAPS activities at local, regional and national level; (2) increase student awareness of the latest advances and discoveries in the pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical sciences area; (3) increase student awareness of career opportunities; (4) provide students with opportunities for professional advancement and leadership development; (5) provide students with non-pharmaceutical background, opportunities to interact with professionals in the pharmaceutical sciences area; (6) foster participation in outreach activities that further the goals and objectives of AAPS.

The AAPS Student Chapter is open to all students, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows who have an interest in the pharmaceutical sciences. Although membership currently primarily consists of members from the Department of Pharmaceutics, we are continually trying to expand our membership base to include individuals in other programs at the University of Minnesota as well. Our efforts to diversify our membership have lead to participation from departments such as Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology, Medicinal Chemistry, Food Science and Nutrition, and Biomedical Engineering.

The AAPS Student Chapter provides a wide variety of activities ranging from scientific seminars and skill development workshops to social outings. All activities have been planned and organized by committee members with the goal of increasing scientific knowledge, enhancing professional skills, and encouraging social and professional interaction among chapter members.

Events have generously been funded by the AAPS as a part of their continuing effort to encourage ongoing education, professional development and active participation of individuals at all levels of their academic and professional careers.

If you need more information about us, please read our constitution (pdf).
